What Does Botox Do?
According to the American Academy of Facial Esthetics (AAFE), Botox was initially developed to treat medical conditions that cause eye spasms and misalignment. However, it was later discovered that Botox could also improve the appearance of superficial wrinkles and fine lines. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin for both medical and cosmetic purposes, including the treatment of frown lines.
Top 10 Facial Areas for Botox Treatment
- Frown Lines
- Forehead Lines
- Bunny Lines: Lines across the bridge of the nose.
- Crow’s Feet: Lines on the upper two-thirds of the lateral eye.
- Mentalis Dysfunction: “Dents” in the chin.
- Brow Lift: Creates a lifting effect of the brow.
- Gummy Smile: Smile with overexposure of the upper teeth and gums.
- Platysma Bands: Aging muscle neck lines/bands.
- Hyperhidrosis: Excessive sweating in areas such as the palms and underarms.
- Glabellar Lines: Vertical lines between the eyebrows resembling the number 11.
Botox effectively reduces the signs of aging in these areas. If you notice wrinkles in any of these locations, Botox may be the solution for you. Additionally, Botox can be used as a preventative measure since it inhibits the formation of wrinkles by preventing the expressions that cause them. It’s important to note that the use of Botox or any other neuromodulators for cosmetic purposes outside of the glabellar area is considered an off-label use.

Facial Expressions and Wrinkles
Facial expressions such as frowning, squinting, smiling, and furrowing of the brow can cause wrinkles to form.
How Does Botox Work?
Under normal circumstances, your brain sends electrical signals from nerve endings to your muscles, allowing them to contract and move. Acetylcholine, a substance used to send these signals, is blocked by Botox at the muscle receptor. Consequently, the brain’s ability to instruct muscles to move is inhibited, resulting in muscle relaxation.
What Can Botox Do for You?
If you’re concerned about the early appearance of wrinkles or want to prevent them from worsening, Botox treatments by Dr. Tal T. Roudner may help you achieve a refreshed and youthful appearance.
During Your Botox Treatment Appointment
A Botox treatment is a quick and efficient way to address wrinkles and fine lines on your face. Dr. Tal will use a micro-needle to inject Botox into the areas you wish to treat. The small size of the needle ensures minimal discomfort or pain during the procedure. Some patients describe the sensation as pressure, while others may experience a slight burning or stinging feeling. For added comfort, a topical anesthetic may be applied 45 to 60 minutes before the treatment to numb the injected area.
Recovery Time After Botox Treatment
Your recovery time following a Botox treatment may range from a few hours to a couple of days. You may notice initial results within a few days, with the full effect taking place around ten days.
