A Fun Strategy Card Game: Screw Your Neighbor

Video how to play screw your neighbor card game

Screw Your Neighbor is a lively and entertaining card game that will keep you on your toes. The objective of the game is simple: avoid ending a round with the lowest ranking card. Gather your friends and get ready for a thrilling game night!

In Screw Your Neighbor, the goal is to ensure that your card doesn’t have the lowest rank at the end of each round. You can achieve this by trading cards with your neighbors and potentially obtaining better ranking cards. It’s a strategy card game that can be enjoyed by players of all ages.

Setting up the game is a breeze. The dealer shuffles a standard deck of cards and deals one card face down to each player, including themselves. Take a peek at your card to strategize for the upcoming rounds.

Card Ranking

The ranking of cards in Screw Your Neighbor is similar to the standard ranking, with one exception – the Ace is low and the King is high. The order from highest to lowest is as follows: King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, Ace.

To play Screw Your Neighbor, each player examines their dealt card. If you have a King, immediately reveal it by flipping it over. This card is locked and cannot be traded. Keep the rest of your cards face down.

The player on the left of the dealer starts the round by deciding whether to switch cards with the player on their left or keep their card. If they choose to trade, they exchange cards with their neighbor, following a clockwise direction. This trading continues until it’s the dealer’s turn.

However, there’s a catch. If the player to their left has a face-up King, they cannot trade. In this case, the turn skips that player, and the trading resumes with the player on the left of the King-holder.

When it’s the dealer’s turn to keep or trade, they will be trading with the remaining cards in the deck. If they decide to trade, they take the top card from the remaining deck and put their previous card to the side. But if the dealer reveals a King, they must keep their other card and cannot trade.

Reveal and Scoring

After all players have traded or kept their cards, it’s time to reveal them. The player with the lowest ranking card loses the round. Keep track of scores by marking them down. Then, the dealer passes to the left, and a new round begins.

Ties and Ending the Game

In the event of a tie between multiple players, the player closest to the left of the dealer position is deemed the loser for that round.

The game continues until the players decide to end it. Compare scores, and the player with the lowest score, meaning the one who lost the least, emerges as the ultimate winner.

Variations and More Fun

Screw Your Neighbor offers room for creativity and customization. Players can create their own variations of the game by implementing house rules. Feel free to explore different ways to make the game uniquely yours.

Additionally, if you’re feeling adventurous, you can turn Screw Your Neighbor into a drinking game. The rules are similar, but instead of keeping score, the loser drinks as a penalty.

For those looking to up the stakes, turn Screw Your Neighbor into a betting game. Each player contributes a set amount of bets at the beginning. Whenever a player loses a round, they must contribute one of their bets into the pot. The game continues until there’s only one player left with bets remaining, and that player walks away with all the money in the pot.
